Astrophil Press Spotify Playlists

Duncan’s Playlist

These are some records I’ve been listening to as I redesign the Astrophil Press Website. It’s a chaotic mix of several genres.

Dennis’ Playlist

This playlist is a bumpy one, but it feels like the rhythm of my recent days. A slow, scratchy start smooths out into a smooth rhythmic pace, which hangs on just long enough before the distortion and the emo break in. There's a last gasp of energy around Neutral Milk Hotel, and then we sign off into nostalgia: the sun goes down, and I may not know what kind of day it was, but at least it was a day.

Alisa’s Playlist

Perhaps people know of “sputnik” as a series of earth-orbiting satellites launched by the Soviet Union, but “sputnik” (and feminine-coded, “sputnica”) are also words for “fellow-travelers.” Thus, the playlist is a journey that takes you to the Soviet times (but just for a bit) and to modern Russia (Terelya is a band from Saint-Petersburg), Georgia (Nino Katamadze), Ukraine (Flëur is from the Ukrainian city of Odessa), Lithuania (Alina Orlova.) I also prepared a couple of extra rewards if you listen all the way till the end – a hip-hop coated folk song performed by Ivan Kupala, followed by Mikael Tariverdiev’s piano piece combined with a poem by Grigoriy Pozhenyan – both were Soviet artists of Armenian descent. The cherry on top is a song titled “I love myself” by a feminist punk band from Saint-Petersburg.

Readers’ Playlist

This is a playlist composed from suggestions made entirely by readers. We asked readers on Instagram what they listened to while reading and they came up with these wonderful suggestions. Please cue this up and dig into one of our many titles! Thank you to everyone who contributed and to these artists for writing such compelling and timeless music.
